    I think we have to understand pre internet and television times. Folks on one side of the world hardly knew what was going on the other side of the world, and people were more gullible back then because they had no experience with media being used this way. What you saw and heard was what you believed.

    my english teacher mr. mccloskey said that orson welles was arrested the next day and the people of groverville went outside into the pitch dark and saw one of these “creatures” shot it down and then saw that it was their water tower. Kind of funny

    Imagine the autumn of 1938: Adolf Hitler, Anschluss, Munich, Czechoslovakia, Nazis on the march, Europe about to explode in war, hearing about that every night on the news…and then this. People were on edge and susceptible to panic for sure. Chilling.
