For those of the ham or amateur radio era, it would be exciting for you to know that ham radio is still an activity considered a hobby. What does this hobby do? Well, like the instant messengers of today's technology Internet, this device is a way of having communications with those who live in distant regions and from other cultures.

It is usually a custom for the two way communicators to identify their position and station and also their zone, region and place. Should the contact be made for a contest to do as many communication touchups with ham or stations radio operators then this information needs to be shared.

1. DX-ing and DX-peditions:

A radio operator's goal, whether they are an amateur or not, is to get into contact with as many stations as humanly possible throughout the entire world.

What does DX stand for? It is short for Distant Stations. The second half meaning DX-ing is followed by QSO which means conversation.

DX-peditions are diverse in that the searching expeditions are intended exclusively for the intention to make contacts. This is especially true for those rare, hard to find and special unrepresentative regions.

Currently, there are radio frequency scanners that are great tools for just his use. It will scan repeatedly to find a sting signal.

2. QSL cards:

What is a Q code? It is a standard compilation of three letter message indoctrinations that all begin with the letter "Q". It was first designed for the commercial sector of radiotelegraph communications. Later, it was incorporated to other radio sectors including amateur ones. The "Q" codes are not necessary in today's transmission age but are used as form of tradition.

The QSL card, in part with the DX-ing and DX-peditions, is shared. This code means to acknowledge the receipt. it was customary that those who did the initial contact send QSL cards to confirm their contact as well as their conversations. These QSL cards are good for those in a contest to get into contact with a certain amount of stations in the specified amount of time. Not only that, the cards are distinguished because they are efficient for amateur radio operators.

3. Contacting remote regions:

For some countries, there are less radio operators and when these are contacted, they are rather special. Many times when a ham radio operators gets into contact with this region, other ham operators seek communications with these operators. When these places are contacted during special times, they have a place for its award program.

4. Hamfests:

This is when events are centered on those in the ham family and their friends. This event is designed to sell and exchange ham radios and meet real life ham friends. This event is usually done over the period of a few days.

5. Ham Radio Discussion Groups

Like the Internet Chat rooms of today, many ham radio operators offer discussion groups based upon similar interests besides the ham radio. They eventually form networks to help each other out should it be necessary. They can also form a discussion group based on their interests of the ham radio.

Radio controlled boats are a fun and rewarding hobby, that could be ether relaxing or exhilarating depending on your needs. Best of all it doesn’t have to be very expensive. RC boats come in a wide variety of forms and types ranging from small and steady cruisers to lightning fact racers. You can either buy one already built or you can buy it in the kit form and assemble it yourself.

Buying a ready build radio controlled boat is by far the easiest option. But building your own boat can be much more satisfying. This decision is dependant on your reasons for taking up radio controlled boats as a hobby in the first place. It is easy to find all of your RC boat parts either on the internet or at your local RC hobby store. You may be worried about the amount of work involved or think that it will be to hard to get a good result, but in the end you will be glad that you put in the effort, after all this is a hobby and what’s the point in finishing it in 5 minutes? Anyway these RC boats come pretty comprehensive instructions that make it real simple to achieve a great result in next to no time.

The next decision you need to make is what type or radio controlled boat would you like.

Radio controlled boats are built in electric, nitro, and gas variants. Electric RC boats, Nitro RC boats and Gas 

Electric are more popular because they are cheep and easier to run strait out of the box. Electric radio controlled boats come in a number of sizes, from the very small and slow pool toy RC boats to the very fast medium sized RC boat. The main problem with the electric boats is that as the batteries loose power the boat become slower.   

Nitro boats utilize Nitro-Methane fuel which is very powerful and makes for a fast boat, but the main problems with Nitro powered radio controlled boats are that the are a little more complicated to run as you will need to use a special starter kit to get them going and the fuel is about 4 times the price of a gas boat.

Gas radio controlled boats run on regular car gas with oil combined in the fuel. Also known as 2 stoke fuel. These engines are larger than the other types and therefore need a larger hulled boat to accommodate the engine. With the larger hull comes some advantages such as a more stable and easier to handle craft and mixed with the cheaper fuel, makes the gas RC boat (in my opinion) the best of the three types of radio controlled boat.

Then there is the radio controlled sail boat.

The radio controlled sail boat is the ultimate RC boat if you are looking for relaxation or stress relief. The radio control is there to control the sails and the rudder and naturally the wind acts as the engine.

Emerging technologies always take some time to get really established and then all of a sudden they just take off and it seems like everyone is using it. Eventually, there comes a time when you can't seem to even remember not using it. CDs and DVDs are a good exampole, as well as cable and satellite TV. Well, one of those new technologies is happening right now and that is satellite radio.

For years we have been used to tuning into our loacl radio stations and putting up with bad reception at times, and ads all the time. But satellite radio is poised to put that all behind us. Here are the top 5 reasons that you need satellite radio right now:

1. More choices, more to listen to. If you tune in to loacl radio you probably don't have more than just a handful of stations that you listen to regularly, simply because there is a small pool of broadcasts made in any given area. Not so on satellite radio. Both XM and Sirius offer more than 100 channels of pure enteratinment including sports, talk, kids programming, and every kind of music that you can imaagine. Always on, available wherever you go.

2. Crystal clear sound. Satellite radio broadcasts are made in digital format, so they are much higher quality than land-based radio. They also aren't prone to the limitations of standard radio. For instance, travel about 30- 50 miles and you will most likely lose your clear reception on almost any radio station. With satellite radio you can travel across the entire US and still have clear, CD-like sound with no interruption.

3. No commercials. How much time do you think you have wasted in life having to listen to ads and commercials on the radio that you really don't care about, just to be able to get the programming that you want? I'll bet it adds up to quite a bit. Imagine not having to put up with those kind of time wasters any more. You get to listen to only what you want to listen to for as long as you want to listen.

4. Unique programming. The standard radio stations are all controlled by the FCC and that means that you can only get certain types of entertainment on them. Howard Stern has famously pushed the boundaries of publicly available radio for some time, and has now sitched to satellite radio as it allows you to have more freedom to listen to whatever programming that interests you.

5. Great for travel. No need to pack up the CD player and all your CDs when traveling to listen to your favorite music, just listen to your satellite radio. No fumbling with tuning in the station or hunting for another one, just set it and forget it. And enjoy!

There are lots of other good reasons for choosing satellite radio for entertainment and information, but whatever reasons you choose, one thing is very clear. If you get satellite radio, you will wonder in just a very short time how you ever got along without it.
